Our Chavurot bring together smaller groups of congregants who share common interests—families within our larger family—that come together regularly to explore Jewish and non-Jewish interests, form friendships, and, of course, eat! In addition to our standing committees, we have a vibrant Women’s Group, a dynamic Men’s Club (which serves the world's best latkes on Hanukkah), several book clubs , and a JRC softball team which plays in an inter-faith league. We encourage you to serve on a committee, join a club, or play on a team -- it is a great way to get to know other members, be active and have fun. We also extend a warm welcome to couples where only one spouse is Jewish; approximately one-third of our members fall into this category and are comfortably involved in temple life.

Judea Reform Congregation offers a variety of activities for our community members. From family holiday celebrations and picnics to bike rides, craft fairs, and Havdalah under the stars, we provide our youth and our families with the opportunity to learn, grow, and explore the world from a Jewish perspective. And because informal Jewish education is important in establishing a Jewish identity, morality and sense of community, the synagogue has programming specifically designed for children of all ages, from birth through college.
Gan Shabbat, weekly playgroups, and larger synagogue events bring together our families with young children. We have a number of activities throughout the year designed for youth of all ages like scavenger hunts, bowling trips and community-service themed programs. We have an active and growing NFTY (National Federation of Temple Youth) chapter for eighth through twelfth graders. All our youth groups encourage a love of Judaism, foster friendships among the youth and endeavor to have a great time!

DRTY (Durham Regional Temple Youth) is our local NFTY chapter. If you know an 8-12th grader who is not yet familiar with DRTY or NFTY, please Contact Rhonda Kaye. Our Jewish teens won't want to miss out on exciting events, workshops, social action projects and retreats.

College Contact Program
If you have a son or daughter who is a college undergraduate student, you’ll want their name on the College Contact list so they can receive High Holy Day greetings and Purim care packages. Sometimes a bit of home makes all the difference to our children living on their own for the first time! To add your child, please contact Kate Flanagan.
Singles
Singles of all ages can participate in Triangle Jewish Singles (TJS), which provides an active program of Jewish religious, social and cultural activities and sponsors Shabbat dinners preceding Friday night services. For more information, contact the Durham-Chapel Hill Jewish Federation at 919-489-5335.

Despite our synagogue being over forty years old, our Men’s Club is only about 10 years old. The focus of the Men’s Club is to sponsor a number of mitzvah activities during the year. All of our lives are so busy, but through mitzvah, it is the goal to bring the community together, and to even socialize. During the year, we help build the temple Sukkah, bake latkes for the wildly successful JRC Hanukkah party, served food for the Purim Carnival and sponsor a blood drive.
Many of the Men's Club members also participate in the co-ed Durham Interfaith Sport League (DIeSeL) which has sponsored a softball league since 2004. This league has been a great success in participation and in fun, and in 2008 it is anticipated that we are going to start a second softball league with other Triangle area synagogues. The annual membership dues are only $36.
The Men’s Club is sponsors a number of mitzvah activities and fun events every year.
If you are interested in being part of any (or all) of the Mitzvah Projects during the year, or in joining the softball teams email (or call) Howie Peckman at hjpeckman@netscape.net
