Be a Jewish Leader—Teach in our Religious School. We need you to be part of the team making Jewish learning meaningful and enjoyable for our children. You do not need to have training as a teacher or be a Jewish scholar. You do have to care deeply about transmitting Judaism to the next generation and enjoy spending time with children. Religious School runs from 9:30/5 - 11:30/5 AM on Sundays and Hebrew School from 4:00 to 5:30 PM on Tuesdays in Durham and Thursdays in Chapel Hill. The ability to read and understand some liturgical Hebrew is only needed for Tuesday and Thursday classes. If you are interested in teaching Hebrew and don’t have knowledge of the language, Stacy will teach you this summer. To talk about teaching opportunities, please contact Stacy slubov@judeareform.org or 489-7062.
Summer Mitkadem Learning — It’s a long summer break and a great time for students to practice Hebrew. Please contact Stacy Lubov for curricular materials to use at home. She is happy to administer ramah tests and sign-off on activities for students that want to continue their Hebrew studies while on break.
Religious School Lost and Found Items – We have a box full of coats, hats, and other items waiting to be claimed. The box is in the lobby of the main building. Please look through it to see if any of the items belong to your child(ren). Items that are unclaimed by May 23, 2008 will be donated.

ISRAEL AT SIXTY: FACING CHALLENGES, SUSTAINING DEMOCRACY
A screening of the film, Bridge Over the Wadi, followed by a presentation and discussion led by Israeli Dr. Shai Tamari to commemorate and reflect on Israel’s 60th birthday
Saturday, May 17, 2008 @ 7:30 PM
Judea Reform Congregation
1933 W. Cornwallis Rd.
Free and open to the public
Bridge over the Wadi is a documentary about Jewish and Arab adults living in the lower Galilee who put aside their enmities where their children are concerned and place a bet on mutual understanding for the next generation, even if they cannot believe in it themselves. The Wadi Ara School is the third school to open in a program called Hand-in-Hand, a project aimed at educating Jewish and Arab children together in schools jointly run by Arabs and Jews. Bridge over the Wadi excels in its depiction of the everyday tension and the cultural differences that mark even the most benign aspects of life in this part of the world. The film shows a journey through a truly brave new world, as parents of both sides courageously set about to raise their children in understanding, however uneasy it may be.
Shai Tamari was born and raised in Jerusalem and specializes in the history and politics of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He served in the Israeli army between 1994 and 1997; earned his Bachelor's degree in Journalism from the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, in 2004; and a Master's in Near and Middle Eastern Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies - University of London, in 2006. He is currently a Rotary World Peace Fellow at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, studying for a Master's in History, along with Arabic and Conflict Resolution. He has spoken extensively across the US on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and is due to graduate in May 2008 and has recently been awarded a Kathryn Davis Fellowship for Peace to study an intensive program in Arabic over the summer of 2008, at Middlebury College in Vermont.
The event is sponsored by the Durham Chapel Hill Chapter of Brit Tzedek v’Shalom - America’s largest grassroots organization
concerned with peace for Israelis and Palestinians. Our mission is to educate and mobilize American Jews in support of a negotiated
two-state resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

COME PAINT OUR TENT OF HOPE — You may have seen our Tent of Hope standing outside the synagogue. All are welcome to participate in painting this symbol of peace and solidarity for the people of Darfur. Our tent and student created quilts support a one-year process in which people respond as communities to the crisis in Darfur, Sudan by creating tents that are both unique works of art and ongoing focal points within communities for learning about, assisting and
establishing relationships with the people of Sudan. The tents are not answers in themselves. Rather, they are points of entry for more
concrete forms of Darfur advocacy. In October our tent will travel to DC for a national demonstration of solidarity and justice along with thousands of other tents and quilts. See the YouTube video about the
