What are we to do with Jonah?
Led by Rabbi Suri Friedman
Room 5/6 in the Education Center
Suggested for: Adults, Teens
Most folks know something about Jonah's stay in the belly of the whale but may confuse his story with that of Pinocchio. On Yom Kippur afternoon, let's gather to be startled as moderns by the powerful questions raised by this pithy set of tales.
Rabbi Suri Friedman was ordained by HUC-JIR, NY and served both as a pulpit rabbi and hospital chaplain prior to her retirement. For the last few years, she worked with Judea's Caring Community and taught for OLLI.
Meditation: Returning to a New Year
Led by Michael Blackman
Sanctuary
Suggested for: Adults, Teens
Meditation can become a means to mindfully connect us to our inner lives, our souls, which can lead to making a connection to God. Since Teshuvah is a very important dynamic at this time, through meditation we can "return" to God, as well as reflect on the paths we may want to travel in this New Year. This session may serve as an introduction to meditation for newcomers and could provide new directions for those with experience.
Michael Blackman has been meditating for 25 years. He first started practicing mindful meditation by studying Buddhist texts but over the past few years has blended Jewish mindfulness, especially after attending a retreat sponsored by the Institute for Jewish Spirituality.
Teen Reflective Walk
Led by Director of Congregational Learning Rena Fraade
Meet at JRC front door
Suggested for: Teens
Our teens are invited to join Rena Fraade for a stroll in the woods to notice what’s around us – seeing the beauty, hearing the sounds, and reflecting on the elements of nature. Weather Permitting. Wear appropriate shoes.
