Social Action Sundays

Social Action Sundays are held once per month, bringing together congregants for two ongoing, hands-on projects.

1) You can knit or crochet blankets for Project Linus, a national organization that distributes handmade blankets to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need.

2) You can work in the Judea Reform kitchen to make casseroles for Urban Ministries. Urban Ministries serves these casseroles to more than 200 people on the fourth Sunday of every month. Judea joins forces with Beth El Synagogue, Kol Haskalah, and individuals to prepare, serve and clean up dinner for clients at the downtown Durham shelter.

Request for Casseroles & More

Each month, we provide dinner for 200 people at Urban Ministries. More than the 11 casseroles, dinner includes the following, all of which are donated by generous congregants. Be one of them!
Monthy needs for our dinner at the Community Kitchen
11 large tuna casseroles
Cookies, any variety - about 400
2 large cans of iced team mix
large bottles of salad dressing - vinaigrette and/or Ranch Dressing - about 3 each
2 large jars of peanut butter
2 large jars of jelly or jam
grated cheese - about 12 cups
If you don't have time to make a casserole, but can drop off some ingredients for the casseroles, they will be used to make them on Social Action Sunday. Please let us know what you plan to bring so we can shop just for what we need by using the SAS Casserole Sign Up Genius
Please deliver casseroles to the freezer and supplies to the pantry in JRC's Weiss Family Kitchen.
Thank you, as always, for your support.
