followed by a Special Oneg
The evening will feature JRC's Midrasha Youth speaking about their Tzedakah work in support of refugees. At the Oneg, there will representatives and information tables from many of Judea's partners in refugee solidarity work, including: Carolina Jews for Justice; El Siembra; HIAS; Church World Service-Durham.
(Oneg sponsored by Ann Bussel in honor of her granddaughter Lily Goldin becoming a Bat Mitzvah and in memory of her father who was a immigrant)
HIAS National Refugee Shabbat Weekend
Other events throughout the weekend in the Triangle hosted by our local affiliates of the HIAS Welcoming Campaign network, including several events featuring Rabbi Rachel Grant Meyer, the Rabbi in Residence at HIAS:
- Friday, March 20, 7:30pm: Shabbat Services at Kehillah (1200 Mason Farm Rd, Chapel Hill) with d’var by Rabbi Jen Feldman and presentation by Carrboro's Refugee Support Center.
- Friday, March 20, 7:30pm: Shabbat Services at Judea Reform (1933 W Cornwallis Rd, Durham) + Oneg with Rabbi Rachel Grant Meyer and JRC's Midrasha Youth.
- Saturday, March 21, 9:30am: Rabbi Rachel Grant Meyer at Beth El (1004 Watts St, Durham) for morning services, followed by a 1:00pm panel discussion featuring Rabbi Meyer from HIAS, Kokou Nayo from Church World Service, Rev. Edgar Vergara from La Semilla, and Marian Abernathy from Judea Reform.
- Saturday, March 21, 7:00pm: Havdalah at Beth Meyer Synagogue (504 Newton Rd, Raleigh), including a presentation by Rabbi Rachel Grant Meyer, followed by text study, discussion, and time for questions and answers.
