Let there be light!! The Ner Tamid (Eternal Light) in our sanctuary is now solar powered. Thanks to the hard work and leadership of Judea teen Daniel Perrin. Daniel will be speaking during Shabbat services on May 31 at 6:00pm about his mitzvah project and the process of converting our Ner Tamid to solar power. As part of his preparation to become a Bar Mitzvah in 2017, Daniel Perrin tackled a project to help Judea Reform fulfill our responsibility to guard our garden. After an energy saving walkthrough of our building with North Carolina Interfaith Power and Light, Daniel decided on a practical way to save energy and a symbolic way to represent God's presence as an eternal source of light. On February 19, 2019 a 50-watt photovoltaic solar panel was installed outside the synagogue as well as an AGM battery. The battery stores and supplies energy to the Ner Tamid even during the night and several cloudy days in a row. We'll pray from the Mishkan Tefillah prayerbook.
