Veteran filmmaker Mark Levin looks at the past and present of the New York garment district from its heyday as a base for immigrant labor and unions to its recent decline. Early 20th century immigrants built the garment industry with its hub on 7th Ave. in New York City. Look back on the garment center and learn about its impact on the US labor movement, the immigrants that built it and its impact on US and world economics and politics. After the screening, congregant David Rousso will answer questions and discuss the legacy of his father Irving Rousso, co-founder of Russ Togs, Inc., a firm grown from a few sewing machines to become a major mover in the garment industry.
