"In the Trenches: Fighting for Immigrants' Rights" with Marty Rosenbluth

Sunday, April 22, 2018 7 Iyar 5778

1:00 PM - 3:30 PMLevin Social Hall

Marty Rosenbluth will discuss the battles he is fighting for immigrants and recommend action that we can take to advocate for and to help people facing injustice due to their immigration status.

Marty Rosenbluth is an immigration attorney with the Polanco Law Firm based in Raleigh, NC, and is leading their new office in Lumpkin, Georgia near the infamous Stewart Detention Center. He spent the summer of 2016 in refugee camps in Greece, working to help people apply for asylum in the EU. He also volunteered with refugees from Latin America and elsewhere at the Dilley Detention Center on the Texas/Mexico border. He is a graduate of the UNC School of Law. He and his family have been members of Judea Reform since 2008.

Rosenbluth now continues his work in Lumpkin, Georgia, defending undocumented Americans facing deportation. He will discuss his work on the front lines of justice work for immigrants and refugees, sharing stories and reflections about the current political climate. Rabbi Larry Bach and members of the Refugee Resettlement and Immigrant Justice Committee will connect this work to Jewish tradition and discuss concrete ways our congregation can support refugees and immigrants here in Durham and Chapel Hill.

A light lunch will be served provided by our generous co-sponsor Mediterranean Deli

This event coincides with the opening of an art exhibit in the Rosenzweig Gallery by and about immigrant justice in the U.S called Creating a Life in a New World: Paintings by Cornelio Campos. Read more about this exhibit here.

Co-sponsored by the JRC Adult Education Committee and the Refugee Resettlement and Immigrant Justice Subcommittee of Social Action.
