    Jewish Campus Community Blood Drive
    Sunday, Oct 25th 12:00p to 5:00p
There is a critical need for blood – now more than ever. That is why Judea Reform is partnering with the Levin JCC so that you can donate life-saving blood. The Blood Connection’s blood mobiles will be stationed outside the J with safe and social distancing protocol. Click here to schedule your blood donation appointment. Walk-ins are always welcome, however, appointments are strongly encouraged and help us to accommodate every donor who wants to donate. As a blood donor, you will not only help your own community with live-saving blood, you will also be helping the global community with life-saving vaccines. For each blood donor screened, The Blood Connection will donate $20 to Vaccine Ambassadors, a NC-based nonprofit that provides vaccines to vulnerable children and families in Latin America and the Caribbean. Twenty dollars can provide an estimated 28 measles/rubella vaccines or 65 diphtheria/pertussis/tetanus vaccines. To date, we have provided over 700,000 vaccines, protecting against 12 different diseases. For more information please email socialaction@judeareform.org with blood drive in the subject line.

VIRTUAL: JRC Coffee Chats: Bourbon Schmooze
    Thursday, Oct 29th 7:00p to 8:00p
Have you been hearing a lot about bourbon and wondering what it's all about? Join Penny Paskoff, a renowned bourbon expert (in her own mind) for a little history of bourbon and tasting of your bourbon. We will sip some bourbon poured from the bottle and talk about some classic bourbon cocktails. Some come in a 375 ml bottle which is the smallest size. A lower proof is better for tasting. Also, Jack Daniels, while delicious, is not bourbon. It's mighty good whiskey. Once you sign up Penny will send you a tasting sheet. If you have some bourbon on hand, great! If not, you will definitely need some! We will be sipping bourbon straight from the bottle to the glass and for that you will need good bourbon. Here are a few you might like. Old Grandad, Bottled in Bond - is usually about $20-25 a 750 bottle. Makers Mark (I find this is on the sweeter side if that appeals to you) Wild Turkey / Russell's Reserve Mystic Bourbon (made in Durham!) Woodford Reserve Four Roses Elijah Craig

Conflict and National Identity in Israeli and Palestinian Literature
    Thursday, Nov 5th 7:30p to 9:00p
This course will provide a comparative analysis of writing from and about Israel and Palestine, from the pre-State period onwards by Jewish-Israeli, Palestinian-Israeli and Palestinian writers. It will bring together a variety of literary texts by writers, including Avraham Shlonsky, Rahel, Avot Yeshurun, Mahmoud Darwish, Almog Behar and Sayed Kashua, to explore the human and personal aspect of ongoing war and political conflict. Topics under discussion will include: literary configurations of place and displacement, homecoming and exile, militarism, political commitment and dissent, and utopian and dystopian visions of the past and future. This multi-vocal view is intended to offer participants a picture of the complexity of national identity and belonging in this highly contested place, and how these fraught issues are given voice through literature. Registration will open in the fall.
